Lullabies & Anthems is an artist book made using vintage music cassette tapes, bound together with Coptic stitch.
The covers are formed from the cassette shells themselves, once containers for songs, mixtapes, voices, messages, now holding something visual.
The pages contain a poem I wrote while contemplating how most moments of a human’s life are accompanied by music, or sound.
From the lullabies
that cradled us,
to the anthems
of our victories,
from the hymns
that linger with incense,
to the rebel songs
of our teenage years,
from the gentle breeze
through the trees,
to the rhythmic dance
of the waves,
from the ballads that echo
our heartaches,
to the serenades
under the sky,
from the somber dirges
of our farewells,
to the jubilant symphonies
that welcome new beginnings,
music writes the soundtrack
of every existence.
